      Colombo. Tuesday 08 March 2016. In celebration of its 30th anniversary this year, the Senior Western Band of Wesley College Colombo proudly presents – PULSE 16 – a gala musical extravaganza featuring nearly 500 students from ten schools at 4.30 pm on Monday 21st March at the Bishop’s College auditorium. This much awaited evening of music will feature the bands of a large number of invited schools such as Ave Maria Convent Negombo, Bishop’s College, Carey College, Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Holy Cross College Gampaha, Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya, Maris Stella College Negombo, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya Colombo, St. Anne’s College Wattala, St. Mary’s College Chilaw etc. Bands from Wesley College’s primary schools at Havelock Town and Katunayake will also perform at the show together with the Senior Western Band of Wesley College and its past members. Tickets are priced are priced at Rs. 700/- (College students), Rs. 1000/- and Rs. 1500/-

  • The Cantando Cello Ensemble presents ‘Baroque in Rhythm’


    The Cantando Cello Ensemble was named for the singing sound that is so particularly associated with that instrument, and has been performing together for ten years now. This year, on the 7th of February, the Ensemble, directed by Dushy Perera, will perform a programme of Baroque music in memory of Mrs. Averil Bartholomeusz. Averil Bartholomeusz was for decades the only cello teacher in Sri Lanka. She was the first teacher of Dushy Perera—the director of the ensemble, and Tamara Holsinger, who in turn have been teaching the instrument for many years. This year marks the 100th anniversary of her birth, and it seems fitting to celebrate her memory with a concert of music she loved, in the voice of the instrument she taught.   • World premiere of ‘An American in Paris’ at Paris’ Châtelet Theatre

It may sound unusual but Parisians and visitors to the French capital are in for a treat with the forthcoming production of An American in Paris which has been adapted from the screen to the stage and will enjoy its world première and opening run in one of Paris’ most prestigious cultural venues before hitting Broadway in 2015. From November 22nd until January 4th, the Théâtre de Châtelet will host Christopher Wheeldon’s theatrical adaption of the classic movie An American in Paris, itself inspired by George Gershwin’s symphonic poem. The show will then head to Broadway on April 12th for a 2015 season in New York. Set in recently liberated Paris, American World War II veteran Jerry Mulligan is eager to make a name for himself as a painter.
