    Each year in March the « mois de la Francophonie » is celebrated all over the world. In Sri Lanka, the High Commission of Canada, the Embassy of France, Vietnam, Switzerland, Romania, the Consulate of Tunisia, Wallonie-Bruxelles International, represented by the Consulate of Belgium, and the Alliance Française de Kotte in association with the National Film Corporation and Agenda 14 have come together to present the Festival Bonjour Cinéma! In 2016, Bonjour Cinéma! will be held from the 17th to the 20th of March in Colombo and from the 19th to the 20th in Kandy and take place under the Patronage of Internationally-renowned film maker Vimukhti Jayasundara. The Festival will present a collection of diversified movies produced in member countries of the International Organisation of “La Francophonie” (OIF), reflecting the diversity of the francophone world. This much awaited evening of music will feature the bands of a large number of invited schools such as Ave Maria Convent Negombo, Bishop’s College, Carey College, Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Holy Cross College Gampaha, Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya, Maris Stella College Negombo, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya Colombo, St. Anne’s College Wattala, St. Mary’s College Chilaw etc. Bands from Wesley College’s primary schools at Havelock Town and Katunayake will also perform at the show together with the Senior Western Band of Wesley College and its past members.   • Legendary Cannonball Run to be revived on 18th March 2016

    Colombo. 09 March 2016. French Ambassador to Sri Lanka Jean-Marin Schuh and German Ambassador Juergen Morhard are taking part in the traditional Cannonball run celebrated by Colombo’s 150 year old Galle Face Hotel, which will be held this year on the 18th of March 2016. The Cannonball run is an annual tradition celebrated on the Galle Face Green, to commemorate the extraordinary incident of a cannon misfire by a member of the British Artillery  in 1845. The 30-pound cannon had misfired during a practice session around the southern ramparts of the Colombo Fort, crashing through the roof of the now Galle Face Hotel, leaving a heavy dent on the drawing room floor where it came to rest under a chair. The cannon ball is at present preserved in the museum located in the South Wing of the hotel. In memory of this “infamous incident” an annual run has been held over the years, which begins at the
